The information on this website is general information about Alberta law. It is not legal advice. Reading this site, or contacting us through it, does not create a solicitor-client relationship. If you have a legal problem, speak with a lawyer about your own circumstances before you act.
General information, not advice
The pages and articles on this site describe how legal processes generally work in Alberta — what a charge means, how a hearing proceeds, what a statute requires. They are written to help you understand your situation well enough to decide what to do next.
They cannot do the thing a lawyer does, which is to apply the law to the specific facts of your case. Two matters that look identical in a summary can turn on a detail that changes the outcome entirely. Nothing here should be relied on as advice about your own matter.
No solicitor-client relationship
A solicitor-client relationship with Centobin Law Office begins only when all of the following have happened:
- we have run a conflicts check and confirmed we are able to act for you;
- we have agreed to take your matter; and
- that agreement is recorded in a signed retainer agreement.
Until then — including while you are reading this site, after you have sent a form, and after an initial consultation — we are not your lawyers and we are not acting for you.
Do not send confidential information
Because no solicitor-client relationship exists yet, information you send us through this website is not protected by solicitor-client privilege. It may also, in principle, be seen by someone with access to your device or email.
Send us enough to let us understand the nature of your matter and check for conflicts. Keep the confidential detail for a phone call or a meeting, once we have confirmed we can act for you.
Legal matters are time-sensitive
Many legal rights are lost if they are not exercised in time. Limitation periods under Alberta’s Limitations Act, appeal deadlines, notice periods under the Residential Tenancies Act, and filing deadlines in immigration matters all run whether or not you are aware of them, and missing one can end a claim or a defence permanently.
Do not delay getting advice because you are researching. If your matter is urgent — an arrest, a bail hearing, a deadline days away — call (866) 395-3232 rather than using a form.
No guarantee of outcome
Nothing on this website is a promise or guarantee about the result of any matter. Descriptions of cases, processes or past work are illustrative. Every case turns on its own facts, its own evidence and the decision of the court or tribunal hearing it, and prior results do not predict or guarantee a similar outcome in your matter.
Reviews and testimonials
Client reviews shown on this site are reproduced from the firm’s Google Business Profile and are the views of the individuals who wrote them. They describe those people’s own experiences and are not a representation about what the firm can achieve in any other matter.
Jurisdiction
The lawyers of Centobin Law Office are licensed to practise in Alberta. This website describes Alberta and Canadian federal law. It does not describe the law of any other province, territory or country, and it is not an offer to provide legal services where the firm is not licensed to practise.
Currency of information
The law changes. Legislation is amended, courts decide new cases, and government programs are altered or withdrawn. Pages on this site are accurate to the best of our knowledge when written, but we do not undertake to keep every page current, and you should not assume that a page reflects the law as it stands today.
External links and third-party content
Links to legislation, courts, tribunals and government services are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or availability. Photographs on this site are licensed stock images and do not depict actual clients or matters.
